Live racing continues this weekend at Northlands with dashes Friday and Saturday (New Years Eve) evening beginning at 6 pm - plus a Sunday (New Years Day) card slated for 1 pm.

Highlighting Friday evening's card are a pair of well-matched contests including the 'back-up class' for boys (Race 4) featuring the likes of Gts Jake, Kg Art Dreamer, K T Loud N Proud and the class-dropping Neal Diamonique. 'Jake' will be trying for his fourth win a row and looks to have a slight edge on that bunch.

Our best fillies and mares on the grounds will throw it down in Race 7 - a wide open affair which includes both Filly Pace winner Dewinton Destroyer and last week's 'top-class' winner Minettas Nightstar as part of an entry from the powerful Keith Clark Stable. Barona Josie and River Lass are also included, plus claimers' Weareverigo, Nakednakednaked, W Jean and the class jumping Crying Over You. It should be a dandy!

The ASHA Awards are slated for just over a month away, on February 4th, and Saturday evening's 'top-class' event for boys could be the decider for 'Aged Horse of the Year' honours. All Canadian Mjjz (aka 'Ham') and Trust The Artist (aka 'Pablo') both have six 'top-class' wins in Alberta thru 2011 and you know they'll be bringing it. They'll face Stonebridge Lyric, Loneridge Shannon, Greek Ruler and the always dangerous Flak Jacket (aka 'Jack') - who'd love nothing more than to spoil the party on this group.

For the first time in 10 years it'll be live harness racing this New Years Eve. After live racing, join us for FREE dancing in the Paddock Theatre starting at 9 pm. The fun does not end there - every half hour starting at 9 pm, The Prize Is Right games will be played throughout the slot floor. Win your share of 8 - 40" LCD TVs, 8 pairs of quarter carat diamond earrings and 8 sets of matching his and her watches. Entry ballots can be picked up with your dinner in Colours restaurant or on the slot floor. Finally you can ring in the New Year with a champagne toast! Should be a great time...

New Years Day

Sunday afternoon's New Years Day card has all kinds of wagering opportunities for the horse player. There's nine races on tap; seven nine-horse fields; eight SUPERFECTAS; rolling WIN 3's throughout the day - plus the always popular WIN 4 wager beginning in Race 6.

Sugar's 'Boxing Day' WIN 4 play, posted here, came out a winner... The $1 WIN 4 34/1489/267/36 - at a cost of $48 - returned a very nice $302.85.
